  mingo language-learning alarm clock +

  a language-learning alarm clock app. you wake up by speaking the language you're studying, with mandarin, japanese and korean at launch.

  the problem

  language apps are easy to ignore. your alarm isn't.

  how it works

  study short themed word packs. when the alarm rings, say three words you've learned out loud to turn it off.

  how i'm building it

  mingo is my original idea, built with AI-assisted development. i own the product: the problem, the research, the scope, the roadmap and every product decision. i direct an AI coding assistant (claude code) to write the swift, then review its work against my requirements and test every step on a real iphone.

  decisions i made

  • designing around a platform limit. ios always shows a stop button, so mingo re-rings a set number of times and keeps its own sound playing until the challenge is done.
  • learn first, then wake up. the alarm only asks words you've already studied, never new ones.
  • never stuck. every challenge has a fallback that ends in an emergency exit.

  roadmap

  • alarm that rings through silent & focus, with a re-ring loop
  • speech check that matches by pronunciation, starting with mandarin
  • learn tab: flashcards, audio and six quiz types
  • spaced repetition that schedules reviews
  • japanese & korean for launch
  • alarm settings: time, repeat days, sounds
  • free / pro tiers and tests with real learners
  • design pass, onboarding, then the app store
